Hello and Welcome
This is my very first blog post, and I would like to introduce myself and share what this blog is all about.
I am a physician with more than three decades of experience in internal medicine and intensive care. I have spent these years working in tense environment watching critical patients hanging between life and death and their anxious families. I have been working in some of the most critical environments in healthcare: hospital wards, emergency rooms, and especially the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) with different medical teams efficiently taking care of patients, never loosing hope even when exhausted.
These are places where decisions must be made quickly, and where teamwork, knowledge, and compassion come together under pressure.
Why This Blog?
This blog, Hospital Files, is my attempt to share my experiences, observations and questions arising in my mind — some answered and some still yet to be.
In my posts, I will cover a range of topics such as:
- What life is like behind the scenes in hospitals, particularly in the ICU
- How ICU teams make critical decisions
- The legal, ethical and emotional aspects of critical decisions
- The good or bad aspects of healthcare system from a patient or caregiver’s perspective
- Common medical myths and their evidence based correction
- Practical insights on common health issues and their better understanding
- Real-world stories that highlight the challenges and success or failure in critical care
- As a healthcare worker how to adopt in a complex, ever-changing field
This will not be material from textbooks and not just sensational stories. My purpose is to discuss above mentioned issues in a clear, honest and respectful way.
Whether you are a fellow healthcare professional, a student, a patient, or someone in general interested to know how hospitals really work — I believe you’ll find something valuable here.
If you’re curious about health, medicine, or the human side of healthcare, I invite you to follow along.
Feel free to comment, ask questions, or suggest topics you’d like me to write about. I would like for this to be an interactive and educational space for all.
Cheers 🙂,
Dr Irfan Ahmed Khan
